2009 Great Yorkshire Bike Ride

Team Royal Oak, Burton Leonard took part in the 2009 Great Yorkshire Bike Ride last Saturday and raised nearly £900 for charity. This is the 26th time the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride has been organised by the Wetherby Lions and last year raised almost £115,000 for worthy local charities.
The ride starts at Wetherby Race Course early in the morning and ends in Filey a total distance of about seventy five miles accross the Yorkshire countryside through the Howardian Hills to Malton and then onto Filey and usually attracts over 1500 entrants. Pictured above are David Gilmore, Bev Hawman, Ben Drummond, Katie Barker and Stuart Barker who all took part this year enjoying a beer at the finishing line. Unfortunately due to bicycle failure only four of the team sucessfully finished the ride. However the weather for the day was fantastic and vastly improved on the previous year when the last six miles of the ride were completed in terrrible conditions.
