The Minutes were then accepted — Proposed by Jonathan Baker and Seconded by Ben Drummond.
Matters Arising
There were no Matters arising.
Chairman’s Report
It has been another wet summer with many fixtures lost due to rain. The bowling club had to cancel all August and September matches due to flooding of the green and has been unable to carry out autumn maintenance on the green owing to poor ground conditions. I hope we can look forward to a better 2009 summer season.
In view of the adverse weather last summer our thanks must go to Mr Drummond for the many hour he put in to keep the sports field playable. I think that this meeting should give some thought to fund raising. We will return to the subject later in the meeting. I have raised the matter now in order to give members time to formulate their ideas.
Finally, I would like to point out that after the autumn meeting the Chairman and secretary will have served two years and will stand down. The new Chairman should come from the football club and the secretary from the Ladies’ cricket club
Treasurer’s Report
The Balance sheet for the year ending 28th February 2009 is attached.
Michael Wray said that The Garden Walk had been a success and thanked
Charles Jesper and John Dawson for their organisation of the day bringing in revenue for the Sports field. The subscriptions are now all paid and the regular donations are appreciated. The levies are increasing in proportion to the increasing memberships. The Gift Aid will be included next year. Outgoings include repairs to the pavilion roof and lawnmowers, also a new immersion heater for the water in the pavilion. The sinking fund is up by £1000 to £3000 and the funds in hand amount to a total of just over £8000.
The Treasurer informed the meeting that Mr Rowley Buck had made an extremely generous bequest of £1 0,000 to the Sports field Trust.
Club Representatives
Cricket
Ben Drummond reported that the Cricket Club was also going to receive a generous bequest of £10,000 from Rowley Buck. He said that there were no other matters to report and that the club was running well. He said that he was looking into the purchase of a Bench to be in memory of Mr Buck for use all year round and to be placed near to the Whapple's fence. There will be a brass plaque arid the bench fixed onto a concrete plinth.
Junior Football
Jonathan Baker introduced Tony Howard who is to be the second Coach for the Junior Football.
Mr Baker reported that the numbers of the Club had increased to 65 registered members. There were a large number of matches cancelled due to poor weather in the last season. He said that the group were very careful not to damage the pitch and if the ground was affected by the weather they cancelled their match. He also pointed out that there was a considerable amount of rubbish left around the pitch and that the junior members regularly cleared up after the adult members. When the weather was wet the club reps made bacon sandwiches and sold them to the children to raise funds for the club.
There was a discussion regarding the need for space to store the bags of football equipment as at present there was little room in the garage. Michael Wray said that members would spend some time sorting and tidying the garage in the near future. The doors need repairing as well. Ms Baker said that the club was a success and that a date needs to be made for the end of season tournament. Preferably on a Saturday or
Sunday.
Tennis
John Compton reported that the tennis committee had had two meetings recently to discuss matters. The total number of subscriptions was down so they were organising Junior Tennis coaching associated with family memberships to encourage interest in the club. The informal coaching would be during the summer, possibly in the presence of some of the parents of the children. There will be two groups for the coaching — groups of 7-11 year olds and 11-16 year olds. Junior Coaching will be held on Thursday evenings.
There are some expensive costs to be met — perhaps helped with a fund raising event. There is a plan to hold a Ceilidh this year. The surface of the courts needs cleaning, weed-killing and new white lines. Estimates have been sought and the cost will be in the region of £3290 + VAT. It is hoped that the Sports field Trust will offer support and match funds provided by the Tennis Club. The work on the fence has not been completed yet.
Ladies Cricket
Laura Hornsey reported that the club had struggled to make up a fall team for matches during the season. The team was mostly made up of 11 members. Katie Barker had contributed hugely but is now at university. Play will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the club will liaise with Ben.
Bowls
Malcolm Scott reported that the club had lost a lot of money from match fees as the games had to be cancelled for two months last summer due to the poor weather. The membership is reduced due to illness and infirmity. The club had to pull out of the Dalesman and Ladies’s Leagues contributing to loss of income from match fees. There is a problem with rabbits at the bowling green. The west side fence needs attention, Mr Scott is attending to the problem. The club is thinking of money raising ideas. Also they are going to advertise in Bishop Monkton, Markington, Staveley, Wormald Green and other local villages for new members.

Ladies’ Cricket £220
