Burton Leonard 2nds v Markington

Burton Leonard 296-4
Markington 188 all out
Burton Leonard won by 108 runs
Burton Leonard 2nd team recorded their third win of the season thanks to a fantastic knock of 179 from Dan Thirkell. After losing the toss on a wet wicket, the opening pair for Burton of Thirkell and Parsons added 175 for the first wicket before Parsons had to retire hurt after getting a ball in the eye. This set the foundation for a large Burton total as Parsons (64*) and Thirkell (179) with a useful contribution from Joe Wilson (24) made light work of the Markington bowling as Burton racked up 296-4 in their rain reduced allocation of 43 overs.
This was always going to be a tough target to overhaul and so it proved to be as Markington soon found themselves in trouble at 21-2. Good bowling and fielding from Burton especially 15 year old Alex Ellerby (3-39) made sure Markington were always behind the rate and although there were a few useful cameos from the Markington team, no one made a large contribution and Burton managed to wrap up their innings with 15 balls to spare as the innings closed on 188 all out, thus giving Burton maximum points.
