Burton Leonard 2nd XI v Markington

Burton Leonard 2nd XI finally got their season off and running last saturday but were well beaten by Markington who managed to rack up 282-5 on the batsmen friendly strip at Peter Lane largely thanks to Wayne Dennis's century. Some of Burton’s bowling unfortunately would have been better served on the tables in the pavilion at the tea interval, however the team did well to keep the target under 300 although the team will rue several dropped chances that allowed the key Markington batsmen to build good scores.

The batting reply by Burton Leonard was a lot better than their bowling, and openers Bryan Slack and Ben Drummond showed the way by adding 82 in 20 overs for the first wicket before Ben Drummond was bowled for 28 by Markington’s slow bowler, David Brown. This gave Burton a great chance of salvaging a point from the game and useful contributions of 26 from Andrew Dallas added to Bryan Slack's 94 not out meant the innings closed on 200-7 with a batting point in the bag.

Next weeks opponents of Lofthouse promises to be a match where Burton will fancy their chances and the bowling should be stronger with the return of veteran 1st team bowler Andrew Parker.

Burton Leonard 3rd XI were hoping to play their opening fixture on Sunday 27th April, however the game fell foul of the weather and they will have to wait until the following Sunday to finally get their season underway when they entertain Helperby 3rds.
