Rob Donnelly and Buffet Evening – The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak, Burton Leonard hosted an extremely enjoyable buffet evening with music from Rob Donnelly last night as part of Burton Leonard’s May Day Fest.
John Burrows, the chef, always puts on a good spread and last night’s £15 a head feast was no exception. Diners had a choice of steak and onions, roast pork, chicken and chick pea curry, Cajun chickem and sweet and sour king prawns with various accompanying side dishes such as salad, rice and jacket potatoes. The dessert menu was equally as delicious with honeycomb cheesecake, treacle tart and raspberry pavlova proving the most popular whilst a whole stilton was on offer for those lacking a sweet tooth .
Once the eating had finished at around nine o’clock, it was the turn of Rob Donnelly to work through a varied set featuring the work of Santana, Dire Straits, Joe Cocker, Steppenwolf, Bad Company and Eric Clapton. Rob has being playing guitar for over thirty years and is probably one of the best known acts in the Harrogate area and his band, the Rob Donnelly Band are very popular and noted for their excellent rhythm and blues arrangements, something which Rob brings to his solo act. His guitar playing is right up there with the best and the biggest compliment I can pay him is that he makes it look so easy. Rob is also an excellent vocalist with a good range which allows him to produce renditions of a wide range of popular music. Rob Donnelly was on stage until just after midnight and just had one twenty minute break and a much needed “fag” break at about eleven o’clock.
The Royal Oak by this time had filled up with a large number of drinkers which added to the atmosphere and made the night more enjoyable. Things began to wind down towards one o’clock and we headed off home having had an excellent evening’s entertainment.

Really nice to see a large turnout on Friday night. The live act was very good and everyone in the bar enjoyed the music.
The food looked very good.
